SD90 lands in South Africa: what 106 tonnes changes
The largest dozer in the Shantui line-up is now available locally, and the first unit is already committed to a Limpopo operation. At 106 tonnes with a 22 m³ full-U blade and 354 kW, it sits in a class that has been dominated by two manufacturers for thirty years.
The interesting question is not whether it pushes well, because at that mass and power it does. It is whether the support model holds up at that scale. A machine this size cannot be recovered to a workshop economically, so it has to be maintained where it stands. We have built the SD90 support package around that: resident technicians, on-site component change capability and a mandatory consignment spares holding.
For operations moving more than three million cubic metres a year, the production maths is compelling. Below that, an SD52 is usually the better commercial answer, and we will tell you so.
